At our location in Mannheim, we’re relying on solar power: a photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the building, which covers part of the power requirements in a climate-friendly manner. The project is a further step in making our energy supply more sustainable – completely in line with our CO₂ reduction path & our group-wide climate targets.

Sustainability at Haag-Streit

Strategically anchored, holistically thought-out.

The Haag Streit Group is part of the Metall Zug Group. Together, we’re pursuing a clearly defined CO₂ reduction path to progressively reduce direct and indirect emissions (scope 1 and 2). Our climate aims are aligned with the specifications of Swiss climate policy and are anchored in our sustainability strategy.
Phase 1

Investments in our locations:

  • Photovoltaic systems at our own locations for green power production
  • Investments in more efficient, resource-saving production processes
  • Implementing a fuel-efficient service fleet (electrification)
  • Purchasing renewable electricity in further locations
Phase 2
  • Expanding the fuel-efficient service fleet
  • Expanding renewable electricity to further locations
  • Further measures on (our own) buildings (e.g. HVAC systems)
Phase 3
  • Purchasing renewable electricity at all locations
  • Using 100% biogas in locations
Phase 4
  • Maximum 10% high quality CO₂ absorption certificates & the use of new carbon capture technologies

Our strategy

Sustainability is a strategically important topic to Haag-Streit. Together with our business divisions, we are working to reduce the effects on people, society and the environment. We are relying on high standards – from long-term, resource-saving products and environmentally friendly production to responsible procurement and logistics. We also get involved actively on-site as an employer.

Climate & energy

A central focus of our sustainability strategy is reducing CO₂ emissions. We have been reducing our energy consumption in eleven locations for more than ten years – such as at our headquarters in Köniz, where replacing 300 fluorescent tubes with 153 LEDs saves around 26,500 kWh.

As part of the Metall Zug Group, Haag-Streit also participates in the group's internal greenhouse gas fund: all group members pay CHF 120 per ton of CO₂ emitted. This money can be used to fund innovative projects aimed at reducing emissions and resource consumption.

Products & services

Sustainability can also be seen in the product design at Haag-Streit: we develop devices with a long service life, a high level of reparability and focus on reuse. A good example is our slit lamp – a high quality Swiss product that has supported specialists for decades, often for 30 to 50 years – way beyond the warranty period.

With support from the internal greenhouse gas funds, we are implementing measures to reinforce the circular economy in the company. Our aim is to extend our products’ service lives even further thanks to circular solutions and to simultaneously reduce the consumption of natural raw materials.

Circular economy activities at Haag-Streit

Our activities to promote a circular economy are currently in development. The first measures have already been implemented – their effects will be seen in the coming years. The following areas are particularly in focus:

Employees

Our employees are our most valuable asset. We therefore strongly commit to raising awareness for topics such as wellbeing, stress management, fitness, healthy eating and accident prevention. At the same time, we provide a working environment in which personal development is actively supported. Instead of rigid evaluation systems, we rely on open conversations to recognize individual targets and development potentials. The strengths and interests of our employees are reflected on together and appropriate development steps are initiated. We encourage our teams to develop further within the company – to promote motivation, long-term commitment and internal knowledge transfer.

Society & added value

As an industrial company, Haag-Streit aids economic development in the regions in which it is active. We provide qualified jobs and train apprentices in four specialist areas. At the same time, we promote cooperation with regional supply chains and cooperate with local stakeholders – from educational facilities to social initiatives. We therefore reinforce regional value chains, promote the attractiveness of our industrial standards and make a contribution to international competitiveness.
