Physiology-based central field testing

All Octopus perimeters offer the physiology-based G and M patterns for central field and macula testing. They are correlated with a nerve fiber bundle map and thus allow testing the points which are most important for a structure-function correlation.

Besides the G and M patterns, the Octopus 900 offers a comprehensive test library of static tests for full and central field applications including special test patterns for blind spot, blepharoptosis and neurological testing.

The Octopus 900 contains all relevant standard HFA test patterns including 24-2, 24-2C, 30-2, 10-2 and a wide range of central, superior and full field HFA test patterns.

TOP & Dynamic strategies

Fast testing strategies

The TOP and Dynamic strategies test the central field in just 2-4 or 6-8 minutes respectively. While the TOP strategy is more patient-friendly, as it starts in the suprathreshold level, the dynamic strategy is better suited to identify small, isolated defects.

Driving tests

For binocular driving assessment

Patient’s ability to drive is commonly assessed with the standard binocular Esterman test, that is widely recognized by regulating bodies as a standard for visual fitness to drive. Alternatively, the Octopus 900 offers also a European Driving test, adhering to the requirements of the EU, as well as a stato-kinetic automated test to comply with German regulations.

Testing flexibility

The Octopus 900 provides complete testing flexibility. Besides standard white-on-white perimetry with a Goldmann III stimulus, it also offers a Goldmann size V stimulus for low vision patients as well as blue-on-yellow and flicker perimetry for early glaucoma detection. Normative databases for all those stimuli are included.

The indication-based program selection menu supports selection of test parameters. This menu only shows the most commonly used choices for a selected clinical application. Information boxes offer further clarity.

Full program selection

In the full program selection menu, a wide range of Octopus and HFA test patterns, strategies, and stimulus types can be combined freely. For research purposes, creation of custom tests is also possible.
Standardize according to individual needs

Custom examination list

For consistent use of testing methodologies and delegation, the Octopus 900 allows creation of a custom examination list within the testing workflow. This is convenient and reduces operator errors. For  communication, each test parameter set can be named according to a clinic’s needs
