Haag-Streit “Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2026” returns for its eighth year

Established as a global platform for clinical imaging excellence, the competition invites eye care professionals, imaging specialists, and slit lamp enthusiasts from around the world to submit outstanding images and videos. Open to participants of all experience levels, the competition highlights both the scientific value and the visual impact of ophthalmic imaging across a broad spectrum of eye conditions.

Since its launch seven years ago, the “Slit Lamp Imaging Competition” has evolved into an internationally recognized showcase of the precision, detail, and storytelling made possible through slit lamp technology. The 2025 competition attracted 384 submissions from 32 countries, reflecting the strength and diversity of the global imaging community. Entries are evaluated based on image quality, technical execution, and pathological relevance.

Last year’s competition demonstrated the consistently high standard of submissions. The overall winner of the imaging category was Kasi Sandhanam of the Singapore National Eye Centre, Singapore, whose composite image, captured on a Haag-Streit BX 900, stood out for its technical precision and artistic presentation. Second place was awarded to James Gilman of JPG Imaging LLC, USA, followed by Angela Chappell of the Ophthalmology Department at Flinders Medical Centre, Australia, who secured third place. The overall winner of the video category was Augusto Paranhos Jr, Forno e Paranhos Oftalmologia, São Paulo, Brazil, with an entry captured on the Haag-Streit BQ 900 slit lamp with the Imaging Module 910 3D. All winning entries from the 2025 competition are featured on the “wallpaper collection” page.

Once again, an international judging panel will bring together expertise in ophthalmology, professional imaging, and slit lamp technology. Returning judges include Marc Curchod, professional photographer (Swiss Visio Lausanne, Switzerland); Jesús Conejero, ophthalmologist (Hospital de Mérida, Spain); Cynthia VandenHoven, medical imaging specialist (FOPS); and Jacqui Kenyon, product expert (Haag-Streit). Marcel Meyer, slit lamp imaging specialist (Haag-Streit), joins the panel in 2026.

“We are inspired each year by the exceptional quality and creativity of submissions from around the world,” said Marcel Meyer. “Show us what you see! We look forward to seeing how participants continue to explore and expand the possibilities of slit lamp technology.”
