Exciting news: our annual showcase of imaging talent is open for entries!

The Haag-Streit "Slit Lamp Imaging Competition" gives eye care professionals across the globe an opportunity to showcase their imaging skills and submit outstanding slit lamp images and videos. It has now run for six consecutive years with great success. Last year's competition saw hundreds of images submitted by participants from 23 countries, with many pearls among the submissions. 

Open to everyone, and inviting entries spanning all eye care conditions, the competition offers an exciting opportunity for slit lamp enthusiasts to demonstrate their talent in return for generous digital cash prizes and widespread industry recognition.

All image and video submissions are scored on image quality, technical execution, and disease interest, and are judged by a prestigious panel of industry and clinical experts.

Calling aspiring ophthalmic videographers

Haag-Streit slit lamps are well-known for their outstanding image quality – but did you know that you can also capture short, high-quality video during your examinations, too? Simply submit up to two videos taken on slit lamps for the scrutiny of the jury. All values are in CHF (Swiss franc). Cards will be pre-loaded with the relevant winning amount. When making a purchase, the CHF value will automatically convert to the currency of the contestant's preferred country.

 

Entry information

Submitting images or videos is as easy as 1,2,3...

Simply follow the guidelines below when creating and submitting images and video files. Please note: failure to adhere to the following guidelines can lead to the judges rejecting your submission. 

1.    Check out the Ts & Cs (our "Participation terms") below.

2.    Capture your image or video, and prepare these items for upload, bearing in mind the following:

  • Each contestant may submit up to four images and two videos
  • Each file must be labelled according to the following format: contestant last name, contestant first name, followed by the number of the image or video. E.g. DoeJohn 1, DoeJohn2
  • Prepare the following mandatory data for each item that you are submitting: device used to capture each image/video; diagnosis or disease shown

3.    Upload your image(s) and/or video(s) to our secure website, using the forms at the bottom of this page.

Meet the judges: the imaging specialists

Haag-Streit is delighted to welcome seasoned judges Marc Curchod and Jesús Conejero to the panel – and extends a very warm welcome to new panel member, Cynthia VandenHoven. All judges hold a career-long passion for professional medical imaging, gained through practical experience in many clinical settings.

Marc Curchod

A professional photographer by training, Marc got into ophthalmic photography by chance. His training took place alongside colleagues, as well as through contacts with medical doctors. Marc worked for 31 years at the Jules Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital, Lausanne. Now retired, he continues to practice this profession several hours a week at Swiss Visio in Lausanne.

Jesús Conejero

Jesús is currently an ophthalmologist at the ‘Hospital de Mérida’, Mérida, Spain, as Ocular Surface and Cornea specialist. He qualified as a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Salamanca, Faculty of Medicine, in 1993. He became a specialist in Ophthalmology in 2000, having completed the Residency period in the Ophthalmology Department of the "Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón" in Madrid, from 1996 to 2000.

Cynthia VandenHoven

Cynthia VandenHoven, BAA, CRA, FOPS is a photographer-trained medical imaging specialist with over 25 years of expertise in pediatric ophthalmic imaging. Certified in Retinal Angiography (CRA) and a Fellow of the Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society (FOPS), she specializes in multimodal imaging, adapting techniques for pediatric patients, and advancing best practices in ophthalmic imaging.

A dedicated educator and leader, Cynthia has organized international conferences, developed accredited training programs, and mentored medical trainees and imaging staff in pediatric imaging. She has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications, and her clinical ophthalmic images have earned numerous international awards. Her career in medical imaging allows her to continue pursuing photography in her leisure time.

Meet the judges: the eyes of industry

Proudly supporting our leading team of opthamologists and photographic specialists: Haag-Streit representatives Marcel Meyer and Jacqui Kenyon. Passionate about medical imaging, our experienced duo bring a wealth of slit lamp product knowledge and understanding of its practical application in the clinic. 

Jacqui Kenyon

Jacqui completed a BA in Photography in 2000, leading to her to pursue a career in medical photography. During her training, she discovered a keen interest in ophthalmology and pursued this specialty. Jacqui worked in ophthalmology and bio-pharmaceuticals for over a decade before joining Haag-Streit UK in 2012 as a Product Manager. In this role, she was responsible for a range of products including OCT, ultrasound, fundus photography, laser and simulation.

In 2022, Jacqui moved across the Atlantic to join Haag-Streit USA as a Product and Market Manager and recently started an exciting new position as National Education and Training Specialist – Diagnostics.

Marcel Meyer

Marcel has over 20 years of experience in the ophthalmology industry.  Today, he works in product management for Haag-Streit's General Diagnostics division. Marcel's contribution to the development of advanced imaging solutions for slit lamps along with his background in training users in slit lamp imaging gives him a distinct affinity for high-quality slit lamp images.
