Extended phaco tasks

Hydrodissection in lens removal

Eyesi Surgical 4.2 enhances the existing lens removal task with the addition of an extra step: hydrodissection. By learning this step as part of a single simulation, trainees can progress seamlessly from hydrodissection through to irrigation & aspiration (I&A) in one task. Importantly, data is carried from one step to the next, allowing trainees to see the impact of decisions made in earlier steps, and to adapt their technique accordingly.

Enlargement training

Safely expand a capsular tear

The new enlargement training task guides surgeons through the necessary steps to safely expand a capsular tear – for example, where the initial capsulorhexis was erroneously made too small, or when the surgeon has decided to do a two-stage continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis. Guiding rings show the optimum size and positioning of the new tear to be completed, while on-screen guidance helps trainees to monitor the viscoelastic pressure in the eye and the stress on the incision.

Rescue maneuver

Safely redirect a tear

The new rescue maneuver task teaches the skills required to “rescue” a tear that has progressed towards the iris, and to redirect it safely to the center. With intuitive guiding elements and close-to-live graphics, trainees can safely practice the required skills in a close-to-life environment without the fear of making mistakes.

Retinal detachment

Effective management strategies

It’s no secret that experienced surgeons vary in their approaches to fixing retinal detachment. For the trainee, the challenge is knowing which route. This module features enhanced guiding elements to walk residents through different approaches, giving them a framework to learn best practices while also having the freedom to experiment and learn different techniques.

Incision & paracentesis

Preparing for real-life scenarios

An enhancement to the software settings in Software 4.2 requires trainees to configure their incision and paracentesis choices in the software settings, and to stick with these choices throughout the surgical task. This update reproduces the real situation where you have to think carefully about your choice of incisions before starting the surgery – while also increasing the residents’ awareness of the instruments that they are using throughout the courseware.

Multilingual learning

Supporting ophthalmology residents worldwide

As our world becomes increasingly connected, and demand for ophthalmological training has grown, the Eyesi Surgical offers courseware in Chinese (simplified), French, Russian, and Spanish as well as English. Switching between languages is easy; simply change the language from the drop-down menu as required. This allows trainees to practice in their preferred language, further removing barriers to learning cataract surgery.
